The day started so good: the protagonist got a date with his love interest Carrie. And then the zombie apocalypse happened. Enraged, the hero decides to kill the zombies. Zombies ruined my day is a shooter shown from a side-perspective. In each level, zombie waves enter from different points, e.g. doors, and the player needs to shoot them down before they can touch him (which causes instant zombification). The available tools are a selection of various weapons (a weak pistol with unlimited ammo, uzi, grenades, etc.) and barricades which keep most zombies away until they break down. Besides the given weapon outload for each level, additional weapons and ammo are dropped by certain enemy types, e.g. soldier zombies drop ammo or grenades and construction worker zombies drop barricades. Other examples for enemies are punk zombies (jump over barricades) and various bosses. Because there is no random element (waves always have the same enemy composition, each item drop is pre-defined, etc.) and resources are scarce, the game soon shifts from pure action to puzzle-solving: the player needs to plan when to use which resource so the level can be beaten. In later levels, there are also survivors which need to protected.
