On the night of the harvest festival, a legion of humanoid mechs attacked Fen's village. After wreaking havoc and destruction, they abducted a young girl from the village, Fen's childhood friend Lemuria. Fen, piloting a mysterious white mech left by his father, sets out into the vast desert on a seemingly endless quest to rescue Lemuria. He eventually uncovers a vast conspiracy and, along with his companions Krishna and Garun, takes the fight to the enemy. Wares 1092: Sōheiden is a Japanese-style turn-based RPG based on Wares 1092 series of novels, directly adapting the story of the first two books. The player can choose one of the three characters — Fen, Krishna, or Garun — as the protagonist, though the story converges between the three early on. The player only directly controls their chosen protagonist, with the other characters in their party controlled automatically during battle. The most notable feature of the game is the "Sacred Stones" system; in addition to earning experience and buying equipment upgrades, these stones are earned through battle and can be used to customize their mech's abilities. These stones come in numerous colors and can be arranged on 64 spaces on their mech's mask, with the color, arrangement, and power of the stone determining the abilities and boosts the player's mech receives. These stones have a limited lifespan and will gradually degrade and need to be replenished.
