TVDJ puts the player in the role of a video editor at the fledgling BBB network. The player is tasked with turning the networks fortunes around by increasing the number of households who tune into the station. Gameplay consists of entirely filling an eight block editing bar with any combination of 1, 2, 3, or 4 block segments of footage, with a four block editing bar to wrap up a show.
