Ryū ga Gotoku: Ishin! is a deviation from the canon series, much like Ryū ga Gotoku: Kenzan!, only instead of 17th century feudal Japan like Kenzan! it is set in late 19th century Japan, at the end of Edo period, both games however are set in Kyoto instead of modern day Tokyo like the main canon Ryū ga Gotoku (aka Yakuza) series.
