Mario's Super Picross

Game Title

1995

Year of Release

A sequel to Mario's Picross on the Game Boy, Mario's Super Picross features the same gameplay as its predecessor. The game is played on a slab of stone with a grid on it. Above every column and next to every row are numbers that act as clues as to where a filled square is located along that column or row. The goal of the game is to find all the filled squares on the grid by using your hammer and chiseling out those squares, while marking those that aren't with an X. There are two different sets of puzzles available but you start off with only one, Mario's Picross, and once the first level is completed, Wario pops in and offers you his set of puzzles. Puzzles from Mario's Picross have to be completed within a certain time. Every time you chisel out the wrong square, you will receive a time penalty, losing even more time for every further mistake. If time runs out before you can solve the puzzle, it's game over. Wario's Picross provides a different challenge, as there is no countdown or time penalty here, only a timer counting up from zero to see how long it takes you to complete the puzzles. The catch is that you will not be notified of your mistakes. Other features include game saves, hints and tutorials.
