La Wares

A group of sorcerers from the Holy Church, known as The Eighth Gate of the Holy Wheel, have ambitions to conquer the central region of the Ahan continent. Chiffon, a 15-year-old boy raised by a band of thieves, has been captured and held in the palace of the Kingdom of Katan. After escaping from the palace with the help of Princess Michelda, the two set out to find the legendary war machine known as "White Knight" and put a stop to the evil sorcerers. La Wares is a Japanese-style RPG adapted from the Wares 1092 series of novels. It is a standard JRPG in the mold of Dragon Quest, where the player explores locations from a top-down view and fights enemies in turn-based battles. The game has no overworld, but rather upon leaving an area the player must select a destination from a list. The player's party moves automatically to the destination, encountering enemies along the way. The player's party can level up, upgrade their equipment, and learn spells; Chiffon will eventually acquire a mech which can be piloted both for combat and travel.
