One day at a book shop, a young boy finds an old-looking picture book by the name of "Fantastep" that catches his eye. He buys the book and takes it home, but upon trying to read it finds that the stories and pictures are all mixed up. Also in the book are the words "Whoever has the courage to save the world in this book, sign here...", and as soon as the boy writes his name in the book, a ball of light envelops him and he awakens inside the world of the picture book.
