Derby Jockey: Kishu-Ō e no Michi is a horse-racing derby game which focuses on training and racing as a professional jockey. The game starts with the player as an 18-year-old rookie who has just graduated from horse-racing school and joined a stable. The game is divided into two major parts: stable sections and race sections. During the stable sections, the player is given requests to participate in races and must choose which races to enter and which horse to ride for each race. In the race sections, the player directly controls the horse through the race, steering and accelerating, switching lanes to jockey for position, and whipping to make the horse sprint. Winning races will increase the player's skill level and reputation, leading to more prestigious races and eventually the option to become a freelance jockey determining their own race schedule. The ultimate goal is to participate in and win all of the prestigious GI races.
