Dead Space: Ignition is an interactive graphic novel available for free to people who pre-ordered Dead Space 2, or purchasable on PlayStation Network and Xbox Live Arcade for those who didn't pre-order it. The game features three different mini-games which can be played between plot sequences: Trace Route, System Override and Hardware Crack. In Trace Route, the player controls a dot on the screen and must race through an obstacle course to the finish line before the enemy dots do. Certain shields can be used to block paths for the other dots, and boosts collected to temporarily speed up. In System Override, the player has to destroy enemy defenses and penetrate the core of the system before time runs out. Hardware Crack has the player rotate mirrors to direct a light beam to the designated location. This game tells the main story between Dead Space and its sequel. The player controls engineer Franco Delile, who is called with his wife Sarah to fix a lift on the space station Sprawl. After repairing the elevator, they are called to repair a computer mainframe, which much like the elevator appears to have been intentionally sabotaged. While travelling between jobs, the couple hears and sees people getting attacked by Necromorphs. They decide to flee and fight through the space station, hacking systems and helping other people on the way. Based on the player's choices, Sarah will die in one of several possible ways. Franco eventually finds Isaac Clarke, the main character of both Dead Space and Dead Space 2, who lies in a coma and gets revived by Franco. By completing the game, bonus items for Dead Space 2 can be unlocked as that game detects a completed Ignition save file. These items include a hacker-themed suit with 15% armor, 15 inventory slots and a bonus for the hacking sections, as well as a hacker-themed Contact Beam weapon, additional health packs, ammo, audio logs and power nodes, found in conduit rooms.
