Castlevania Series

Castlevania, known in Japan as Akumajō Dracula, is a long running gothic horror action-adventure series created by Konami. Debuting in 1986 with its eponymous release on Nintendo's Famicom Disk System, the series underwent multiple reinventions, impacting the wider industry each time. From the original Castlevania's (1986) movement and item mechanics influencing all future action games to Castlevania: Symphony of the Night's (1997) nonlinear structure and role-playing elements helping spawn an entirely new and enduring genre (later to be designated as "Metroid-vanias").
