Thrill Kill was intended to be a hyperviolent fighting game for the PlayStation. It features a dark horror plot in which ten condemned souls are given the chance to brutally fight with each other for a chance at reincarnation. It contains eleven playable characters, including an unlockable final boss. Unlike most fighting games of the time, it allows up to four players to fight simultaneously in large arenas with the last player standing winning the match. It was known for its extremely high levels of violence, with large amounts of blood and gory finishing moves. Thrill Kill was originally intended to be published by Virgin Interactive. Its extreme violence was both a selling point and a source of controversy, and it was initially given a rare Adults Only ESRB rating for violent content. After the acquisition of Virgin's American publishing branch by Electronic Arts, the project was reevaluated; Electronic Arts was ultimately uncomfortable with its content and cancelled it. It was reportedly almost complete. Paradox would later reuse the engine and combat system for their 1999 game Wu-Tang: Shaolin Style.
